Everybody seems to be talking about getting rid of cable. It's an unnecessary bill when you think about it, and there's never been a better time to get rid of cable.

With so many different streaming gadgets and services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Google Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV (and that's just off the top of my head), you won't be missing any of your favorite TV shows if you cut the cord. Better yet, you could be getting even more programming for less. And let's not forget about the HD antennas that can also bring you the games.

But how do you know which streaming service is right for you? I've created handy comparison charts to help you sort it out. But cutting the cord might not be advantageous for everyone. Depending on how much you pay for cable and which streaming services you want, you could pay more. Or you could save TONS. You won't know until you try this simple, handy calculator.

Just enter some basic information like the cost of your cable bill and what streaming services you will subscribe to into Slate Magazine's cost calculator to see how much you will save per year.

In some cases, there's potential to save hundreds of dollars per year. Of course, to cut the cord on cable you will need to keep your Internet service, but you will notice how much lower your bill will be.

If it looks like cutting the cord on cable is still your best option, click here to see which streaming services I think are the best.
